An Island in the Sky

This was a really spectacular walk I took a trip up to Raven's Rock in County Wicklow at the end of 2024. Unexpectedly, instead of views of the usual rolling green fields, I was greeted by this amazing scene.

It felt like I was standing on the edge of the world. The lower lands were completely blanketed in a thick layer of white fog, creating a perfect "cloud inversion." This happens when a layer of cold air gets trapped near the ground by a layer of warmer air sitting on top of it. It basically puts a lid on the atmosphere, keeping the fog low and turning hilltops into little islands. It really was so cool!
