Spotted: Seals at Lime Kiln

I absolutely love the Glen Beach Cliff Walk, regardless of the season. Back in December, I was wandering along the edge near Lime Kiln Bay when I paused to look over the side and was greeted by this incredible sight. It was a full house on the pebbles!

I made sure to stay really quiet and kept a respectful distance high up on the cliff edge. I think I was spotted by the one right at the bottom, giving me a bit of a cheeky look, but thankfully they remained undisturbed and kept on snoozing.

Here is a brilliant fact for you: the Grey Seal is actually Ireland’s largest native land mammal! Their scientific name, Halichoerus grypus, translates to "hook-nosed sea pig," which feels a bit harsh for such lovely creatures, don't you think? It was such a peaceful moment watching them camouflage against the grey stones, just listening to the sound of the ocean.
