Winter from the Archives

I spent a bit of time this morning scrolling all the way back through my photo backup, and honestly, it’s something we should all do more often. We’re so focused on the next shot that we forget the gems sitting in our archives!

I stumbled across this shot from a trip to Northern Germany a few years ago. It was taken on my old Samsung Galaxy S8. Looking at it now, I’m actually really impressed with how that older sensor handled the scene.

Forest scenes are notoriously tricky - lots of vertical lines and complex details - and when you add snow, smartphone cameras often struggle to find a focal point or balance the exposure correctly. But this old reliable S8 nailed the cool, blue tones of the shadows perfectly.

I take and edit my pictures with a smartphone. (My current phone is a Google Pixel 10 Pro XL).
