Mist and Mystery in Wicklow

There is something magical about stepping into a forest when the mist is clinging to the branches. I took a walk up through Ballymoyle Forest in County Wicklow last week, and the atmosphere was really cool.

The tall, straight rows of conifers (likely Sitka Spruce?) which are so common in the forestry here create this amazing "cathedral" effect. I love how the light tries to punch through the dense canopy in the centre of the path. It creates this perfect natural vignette, drawing your eye straight through the tunnel of trees.

Interesting fact: Did you know that forests like this are prime spots for mosses and lichens to thrive? Because the dense canopy traps humidity and blocks direct sunlight, the forest floor stays damp and cool, allowing that vibrant green moss to blanket the ground and tree stumps. It’s nature’s own soundproofing!
