Wicklow’s Last Ancient Forest

As you’ve probably already seen in previous posts, I spent some time wandering through Tomnafinnoge Woods recently, and the atmosphere was absolutely incredible.

Did you know that Tomnafinnoge is actually the last surviving fragment of the great oak woods of Shillelagh? This forest once blanketed the hills of south Wicklow. It’s wild to think that the timber from these very woods (or their ancestors) was likely used to build grand structures like Westminster Hall in London.
