Why Is There A Lighthouse 40km Inland? ๐ฎ๐ช
Wait, a lighthouse with no sea in sight? ๐คจ
If you drive through County Meath, Ireland, you might spot something completely out of place: a towering lighthouse sitting 40km away from the coast.
This is the Spire of Lloyd, Ireland's ONLY inland lighthouse. Commissioned by a wealthy lord as a memorial to his father, this bizarre tower wasn't used for guiding ships. Instead, the lord used to sit at the top with his telescope to watch local fox hunts and horse racing! Today, you can take in the magnificent views of nearby Kells from ground level, and at night, the spire transforms into a dazzling coloured beacon that can be seen for miles.
