Neighbours

Damp boots and (sometimes even) muddy knees are a small price to pay for shots like this. Back in the autumn, the forest floor was absolutely teeming with life, but you really had to slow down to see it. I spotted this bunch of friends little up on a ledge near the forest path.

Shooting in the woods can be tricky with dappled light, but my then Samsung Galaxy handled the dynamic range pretty well. When I brought this into Snapseed, I didn't want to oversaturate the greens. Instead, I focused on 'Tonal Contrast' to separate the rough bark from the soft moss, giving the image a tactile, crunchy feel that reminds me exactly of how the forest smelled that day.
