Veil through the Birch

Let's be honest, we all love a good waterfall photo. But sometimes, just pointing your phone at a wall of water can result in an image that feels a bit... flat.

This shot from our recent trip to Powerscourt Waterfall is a prime example of "looking through" the scene rather than just "looking at" it. By stepping back and using these gorgeous, peeling birch trees as a foreground element, I was able to add depth and scale to the image. It turns a standard landscape shot into something that feels like a secret discovery.

Pro-Tip for Pixel Users: If you're shooting moving water, try the "Long Exposure" mode in your camera tab. It blurs the water into that dreamy, silky look without needing a tripod. For this specific edit, I kept the shutter fast to retain the texture of the spray, but used Snapseed to cool down the white balance, emphasising that crisp, wintery air.
