The Mist of the Unseen
I was standing just above the main drop of Glenmacnass Waterfall for this shot. It’s funny, sometimes the most evocative photos of a waterfall don't actually show the cascade itself.
From this spot, you couldn't see the water plummeting down, but you could certainly feel it. The roar of the water was deafening in the best possible way, filling the air with a raw, natural energy. You can see the spray drifting up in the bottom right of the frame.
I love the contrast in the valley below. On the left, the dying bracken glows like copper in the slant of the sun, while the right side is dominated by those towering, dark fir trees. It’s a classic glacial valley, carved out by ice thousands of years ago, leaving this perfect path for the river to wind its way down toward Laragh to join the Avonmore. It’s a view that never gets old, no matter the season.
