The River Sometimes Roars
I headed out to Devil's Glen near Ashford today and got completely drenched with the rain. However, it was well worth the trip. The waterfall - normally a fairly modest affair - was absolutely thundering. The noise was deafening in the best possible way. We've had days of solid rain here in Wicklow, and while it's made the trails a bit muddy, the payoff at the waterfall was absolutely spectacular.
The Vartry River has completely transformed. It wasn't just flowing; it was crashing down the rock face with such ferocity that the spray was soaking the viewing platform. It really reminds you how this gorge was formed in the first place, carved out by massive glacial meltwater thousands of years ago. Seeing the water this high, you can feel that ancient power still at work.
