JACKSON’S FALLS

Jackson's Falls is a hidden, whispering secret tucked away in the bustling village of Laragh, down the road from the famous Glendalough. The spot offers an intimate, enclosed tranquillity and feels like a private discovery. It’s a shaded, leafy corridor where the Avonmore River tumbles over a series of rocky shelves.

The Cascades and Canopy

Rather than a single sheer drop, Jackson's Falls is characterised by a "staircase" of cascades. The river navigates a bed of smooth, moss-covered boulders, creating white-water ribbons that weave through the dark forest floor. The area is densely wooded with native oak, beech, and birch, creating a natural cathedral that filters the sunlight into dappled pools. This dense canopy amplifies the sound of the rushing water, isolating you from the noise of the nearby road.

The “Secret” Access

Part of its charm is its location. It sits almost directly behind Lynham’s Hotel and is accessed near Bookie’s Bridge, making it a surprisingly accessible slice of wild nature that many visitors drive past without ever noticing.

The entrance is discreet. Look for the path near Bookie's Bridge (close to Lynham's Hotel). It’s a short, easy walk, making it perfect for those who want a nature fix without a strenuous hike.

The Perfect Detour

This is the ideal "cool down" spot after a long hike in Glendalough. Locals often combine a visit here with a hearty meal or a pint at the nearby hotel, enjoying the river's sound from the comfort of civilisation.

Footwear Note

Even though it is a short walk, the riverbanks can be slippery and muddy. Leave the sandals in the car and wear shoes with good grip.
