BRITTAS BAY BEACH
POCKET IRELAND › Place Guides › Brittas Bay Beach
Widely considered one of Ireland’s finest stretches of coastline, Brittas Bay Beach is a five-kilometre ribbon of golden powdery sand that dissolves into the Irish Sea, backed by a rolling landscape of designated conservation dunes that span over 100 hectares. Without headlands to break the view, the horizon feels endless, creating a rhythmic and restorative environment perfect for long, uninterrupted walks.
Blue Flag Status
The beach’s Blue Flag status certifies its excellent water quality, making it a premier spot for swimming and bathing during the warmer months. While it is a magnet for families and day-trippers in high summer, the sheer scale of the bay allows for moments of solitude if you venture further along the shore. For a truly magical experience, visit in the early morning or late evening; you may catch sight of local horses being exercised on the sands, silhouetted against the light—a local custom that adds to the bay’s romantic untamed character.
