Just a few kilometers from the town of Enniscorthy, Borodale offers a serene woodland escape that feels worlds away from modern life. Dominated by the murmuring Boro River which carves through a steep, wooded valley, it is a place where the sunlight filters through a canopy of mature oak, beech, and pine, dappling the forest floor in green and gold. A little hidden heaven!
Atmosphere
It’s a fairly small location, but well worth a stop-off and perfect for picnics. A short 10-minute walk takes you down to the river where there is a walkway with steps. The valley floor is intimate and enclosed, creating a microclimate that feels distinct from the surrounding Wexford farmland. The soundscape here is dominated by the rushing water of the Boro River over large rocks as it hurries on to meet the River Slaney and the riverside path creates a natural "green tunnel" of beech trees that looks straight out of a fantasy movie.
The Hidden “Lady’s Walk”
There are two main trails. One is known to the public with walkways by the water, but there’s another which you must explore and find for yourself (it’s not difficult to spot, but a little less obvious). It’s a short trail that takes you high up the bank for a view that looks like a drone shot.
