Neon Nature in the Ow Valley
I was driving through the Ow Valley today and was mesmerised by the forest around me. The trees really appeared to be glowing neon. It was incredible. They were virtually all covered in green moss and I pulled over to have an explore.
Did you know that this kind of heavy, thriving moss is a brilliant indicator of incredibly clean air? The moss acts as an epiphyte, meaning it just uses the branches for physical support without taking any nutrients away from the tree itself. It thrives in the damp, pure air of the Irish countryside, turning our woodlands into these lush, temperate rainforests. Have you ever stumbled across a woodland spot in Ireland that felt this beautifully otherworldly? Let me know in the comments!
