Prickly Puffballs
Written By Smartphone Photographer
I was looking back through my camera roll from last September and found this little treasure from a wander up Tara Hill. The morning dew was still clinging to the blades of grass, perfectly framing what looks like a trio of spiky puffball mushrooms. The rich, earthy colours and the quiet stillness of that September morning really came rushing back to me when I spotted this photo.
I strongly suspect they are Common Puffballs, though given how prominent those little spikes are, they might even be the Spiny Puffball variety. If anyone knows their fungi better than I do, please let me know in the comments!
